Accountability

There are so, so many examples of abuse and even death of autistic and learning disabled people and people with mental illnesses in care and hospital settings. And there is rarely ever true accountability, despite the promises.

The video is here and the words of the poem below.

It’s easier to promise in the darkness of a room
When no one’s really listening in a presentation gloom,
When the promises you make will not be visited again.
It’s easier to promise then.

It’s easier to promise when the person isn’t there,
When the earnest words you utter drift away as heated air.
Well you think you know you mean it, that it is a good idea,
But there are no solutions here.

It’s easier to promise when you never have to pay,
When you never reach your target, but you get to walk away.
As you move on from your failure that is someone’s living hell,
You tell yourself it went so well.

It’s easier to promise when you really don’t believe,
It’s just a job you’re doing, one that you can take or leave.
When you’ve wasted all that money and then claim you can’t resource,
It’s easier to lie of course.
